Denying the Form

ashramjunk

In art, especially when you’re just learning the advanced levels, as I was at Otis Art Institute on that fateful day in 1967, you eventually learn about “denying the form”. What this means is that you create an illusion, generally a three-dimensional illusion on canvas, such as a landscape oil painting, and then you paint big numbers and letters all over it, jolting the viewer back to the two-dimensional canvas, rather than the deep landscape underneath it.

Well, it happened to my beautiful Ashram, as I predicted it must. I by no means want to discourage builders, but they must learn, not just go wild. Frank Lloyd Wright really had something there when he expressed the opinion that a house should not just be planted down anywhere in any shape — it should take into consideration the environment into which it is going. It’s not just the Purple Penis and the Flying Fairy Ball — in themselves there’s nothing wrong with them in a private region or property, but this is not private, and you are not encouraged to go wild with self-expression; it’s a place of work.

I know it seems absurd of me to point out things like that as glaring examples of inappropriate style in the Ashram, but those examples go a long way toward explaining what I mean here. Continue reading

What is “The Practice”?

alt
Movements Dance Troupe at American River College Performance

I mentioned in yesterday’s blog that if one does not actually DO the Practice, it’s worthless and one cannot blame the Teacher. Boy, is this an important idea. You read about the Practice. You hear about the Practice. You study the Practice, and in the end, you must DO the Practice or give it up. I’ll elaborate on the subject…

1.   You hear someone talking about work ideas and it sounds interesting and exciting, which it isn’t, but thank your lucky stars you don’t know that yet, or you’d just plain give up right here before you even start.

2.   You read a book, watch a couple of videos on youtube and read what your friends say about it on facebook, the final arbiter of human social interaction.

3.   You hear a lecture, radio show, interview, something that indicates that something might be there, but doesn’t indicate exactly what it might be.

4.   You hesitantly buy a small, inexpensive amulet, just to try.

5.   Good things suddenly happen, and now you’re really interested, want to know what more there may be in the goodies box under the CQR tree.

6.   You ask around, and find out about the Ashram.

7.   You are told that the work you’ll be doing is largely in the Ashram, although you might want to sell greeting cards or operate a small business as part of your Practice, like Eric and Tamara and Ken and I do, and like Lee and Charles used to do in a gallery space.

8.   You bring your Avatar into the Ashram and hook him or her or it up to the grist mill, hoping for the same results or better that you’d get from using a bead mala, and that’s exactly what does happen; you get the Merit from the work, plus the Merit for the work you do for others, a double whammy Merit-Hit. Street of Dreams is Starting to Take Shape & Update

zentemples

On this side of The Shift, the Street of Dreams is a complete range of Temple environments created by me; each leading to a profoundly different world with a different set of work regulations and work conditions.

My wondrous shops and Jazz Club are gone, alas, as are those of Space and XxaxX, sigh, but we gotta have bypasses, and it’s up to us Vogons to put them in, and that’s what I did.

UPDATE ADDITION:

I’ve managed to buy and put up two more temples tonight, and I want to hasten to add that SpaceBuddhaa has an enormous multi-story gallery & shops boutique, housing many of her wonderful decorating items and other wondrous goodies. It’s on The Strip, at 3201 Meters, along with my Fashionista Shop, right next door to hers.

Bottom line, Spacebuddhaa, XxaxX and Leslie Ann are deluged by tons of stuff coming back into our inventories, but it does make room for the Temple items necessary for their function, and shops are not the primary purpose of the Ashram. Continue reading

I Spent the Night Alone

I spent the entire night roaming the Ashram at each and every level, analyzing each area and noting which I need to do first and which can wait until some other time. I now have a full breakdown of the exact location of each and every meeting space and workspace in the Ashram and the number of prims available to deal with each.

I am happy to say that my Far West Region, which was strapped down to just hundreds of prims, has now a nice juicy 11,101 prims with which to work, and I’ll need every single one of them to do what I’m going to do there, upon which I’ll now elaborate: Continue reading

Thank you, thank you, SpaceBuddhaa!!!

Cloister Members during Demolition of the Waterfront Condo

SpaceBuddhaa was busy in the Ashram tonight, clearing out the objects in the Condo. I have a suspicion that when I de-rezzed the condo, someone fell — I sort of saw something move downward from my elevated position. I hope that’s not true, but if it is, I’m mighty sorry, even if the Avatars tend to bounce like a toon.

By the way, personal flying is permitted of course when you’re building or rezzing, it should go without saying. It should, but it can’t. So the final word is, for building, you can do whatever you need to do in order to accomplish the build.

Anyhow, thanks to SpaceBuddhaa’s efforts tonight, in spite of a lousy internet connection and all sorts of Sl internal problems, the objects formerly known as “the condo” and contents are entirely gone, making room for what should be there, should have been there in the first place, but couldn’t be there until we were here, if you get my meaning, if you get my drift. What is it that’s going in there? It’s what Morgan would have called “Wait and See Pudding”. Continue reading

Lorca, GullFoyle, Capizz, Molly Midway — Your Malibu Beach Home is Here!!!

malibu

I’ve put up Malibu Beach Homes for Lorca, GullFoyle, Capizz and Molly Midway; they’re not yet completely finished, but they do each have your brand-new XxaxX-made plasma tanks, the latest model. I’ll get around to putting in some decor as I’m able. I’m posting my hourly stuff on twitter, and was just in time to put up a notice that we were in the middle of a crashing thunderstorm (thanks for the rain-dances) which begins the fall season in this New Reality. You can tell whose house is whose by clicking on it and reading the name. If you want a name box in front, we can arrange it. Continue reading

Monday is Music Day

Terry Melcher and Mark Lindsay

I snapped this photo of my friends Terry Melcher and Mark Lindsay with my Mamiyaflex Medium Format Camera back in 1966 or 1967, either at RCA or at Cielo Drive, I can’t determine from the photo clues which it was. This photo is the result of a night’s search through thousands of negatives to locate it and the others I took of Terry back in the day.

I’ll catch you up on how I spent my night: Continue reading

New For You

chenrigtemple2

I’ve put back both of the Chen-Rig Temple Prayers; they are once again to be found on the backside of the Chen-Rig Temple entry wall, just as they were before The Shift.

Don’t laugh. I know it looks funny now in the Ashram if you’re a Perm Rez, but I’m working on it… I’m restoring the Ashram, little by little, to what it was here in this Reality Zone before the mingle-mangle of mixing manifestations that scrambled it all up.

This sort of thing always happens, and every time it does, it’s Leslie Ann that’s gotta grab a mop & broom and clean up the mess, detail the cars, change the stuff that isn’t right, and generally sweep the streets with a hand-broom and a dump-cart.

Heck, that’s actually one of my oldest professional gigs. Continue reading
