NORTON STREET ON KAY GOD
1930 Cabaret
Step through the velvet curtains and into another time.
Tonight, Kay GOD presents 1930 Cabaret, a collection of original Norton Street songs reimagined as though they were performed in one of the legendary nightclubs of the early twentieth century. The lights are low, cigarette smoke curls toward the ceiling, the piano has just found its key, and somewhere in the back of the room a trumpet quietly waits for its entrance.
The strange inhabitants of Norton Street seem perfectly at home here. The Bornless One broods over impossible questions from a candlelit corner table. Mike tells improbable stories between sets. Crystal drifts through the room with effortless grace, while Audrey somehow knows everyone who walks through the door. Reality and fantasy mingle as naturally as jazz chords and whispered conversations.
Musically, the album draws upon the intimate atmosphere of classic cabaret, early jazz ensembles, torch songs, dance bands, and late-night radio broadcasts. Every performance is imagined as a live appearance from the mysterious Kay GOD studios, where every microphone opens onto another world.
Like every Norton Street collection, these songs are not simply adaptations of the play. They are alternate doorways into the same universe. The characters remain the same, but the emotional colors shift. Humor becomes bittersweet. Mystery becomes elegant. Even the impossible feels perfectly at home beneath the warm glow of stage lights and Art Deco chandeliers.
So settle into a comfortable chair, order your favorite imaginary beverage, and let the orchestra begin.
The house lights are fading.
The announcer steps to the microphone.
“This is station Kay Gee Oh Dee… Kay GOD… the station that makes it…”
Welcome to 1930 Cabaret.
