Welcome to Zulu Village, another impossible broadcast from Kay GOD – The Station That Makes It, where geography is optional, history bends to the music, and every rhythm has a story to tell.

This is not an ethnographic recording, nor a documentary. It is an affectionate musical fantasy—a mythical village that exists only on the far side of the radio dial, where drums speak, voices answer across the hills, and every sunset becomes an invitation to dance.

The musicians of Zulu Village draw inspiration from African vocal traditions, joyous call-and-response singing, hand percussion, ceremonial rhythms, and the irresistible energy of community music-making. Rather than attempting to recreate any single historical style, the album imagines a place where every path leads to another celebration, every visitor is welcomed to the circle, and every song carries another layer of the story.

As always, the Kay GOD engineers were unable to explain how these recordings reached the station. One claims they arrived by shortwave during an electrical storm. Another insists they were discovered in a carved wooden drum floating down an unnamed river. Our overnight announcer simply shrugged and filed them under “Essential Listening.”

The performances move from exuberant dances to mysterious ceremonies, from playful village gatherings to moonlit processions. Some pieces are driven by powerful percussion, others by layered harmonies that seem to stretch beyond the horizon. Throughout, the spirit remains one of celebration, humor, friendship, and shared adventure.
