What is the Nature of a Game?

Try to imagine what it’s like to be in the Void. There is no passage of time, no way to mark the passage of time. There is no space. No objects, no particles of matter, no energy, no nothing. It’s not necessary to imagine the state of the Void; you can enter it any time you wish to delve into the Void.

The Void has no properties. No height, no width, no depth, no color, no form, no shape, and in fact anything you can think of, just put a “no” in front of it, and that’s a good description of the indescribable Void.

In the Relative World, there is Life, and Life is Pain.

Sure, life hurts, and it hurts bad. It has its ups and downs, its good times, and its bad times, and life is pain, so it’s no wonder that anyone would want to crawl out of there, get off the wheel, and have a pain-free eternal existence in the Land of Pure Bliss.

So you spend thousands of lifetimes fighting, clawing your way out of Samsaric Illusion, and finally, you find yourself “Off the Wheel”, free at last, free at last!

You have achieved the Eternal Bliss of the Void. Wow. What a relief, like taking a huge dump after hours and hours of sweat, anxiety, and discomfort. Here it is, The Void.

Now imagine SITTING QUIETLY AND PERFECTLY STILL, IN THE VOID.

What is “forever”? There IS no “forever”, because in the Void, there is NO TIME, none at all.

What is “empty”? There IS no space. What is “me”? There IS no “me”. When I say “empty”, I MEAN empty.

Okay, so sit there for as long as you like. Time doesn’t pass, space doesn’t happen…there’s a whole lot of nothing.

The fact is, sooner or later — and there’s no way to guess which it will be — you’ll wonder, “where IS everybody?”, and the moment THAT thought strikes you, it’s all there in front of you, around you and within and without you.

“Everybody” is not hard to find. They’re always howling in pain, complaining about their miseries and demanding Cosmic Intervention.

Even with the Void in place, whether you’re aware of it or not, “everybody” is always there, always potential, never NOT there, just as all the space that ever was and will be is always there and always will be, and that goes double for the inhabitants.

How come?

Because the universe doesn’t work quite the way straight-line “mainstream” science thinks it does, that’s why.

A universe is a cosmic game; it’s electronic and quantumish in nature, is eternal — there’s nothing to grind it down including entropy — and the game is ALWAYS THERE, whether active or not, just as your subconscious is always there, whether or not you become aware of it in either its active or passive state.

The Universe is a game? But for whom? For you, for me, for all Beings everywhere, plus all the other inhabitants and consciousnesses Out There, and in an infinite universe, there are always plenty.

What exactly is a game?

A game is something to do, something that takes time, space and energy to accomplish, that has a point to it, that has a beginning situation and an end of game set of goals.

As a kid, you loved games, but as you grew older and were formed into the Protestant Work Ethic, you learned that games are a waste of time, and that concept had plenty of reinforcement.

Of course, I’m not talking about the games you MERELY WATCH.

Games played by someone else and shown on a giant monitor screen are not what life-gaming is all about. Watching someone else play and betting on the outcome is called “gambling”, not “gaming” — just add or take away a “b” and an “l” in the word “gaming”, and you get the language difference, but the difference is more than conceptual or habitual — it’s a matter of robot-mind versus free spiritual consciousness.

There’s a world of difference between watching a game being played and actually you yourself actively and personally playing a game; notably the degree of immersion, level of significance, and sense of participation, which is to say, “personal experience personally experienced”, which is the whole point of appearing in a universe, anyway.

There’s nothing quite so refreshing as taking a bath in Organic Reality. Actually, no higher spiritual Being LIKES to incarnate anywhere…it’s a pain, but someone has to do it, if the Cosmic Game is to not merely persist but become active and fun.

Yes, fun.

Jesus Christ, did you think humans are the only ones who like to to have fun?

It’s not just fun, of course, and spiritual fun is very different from organic fun.

There’s also a lot of misery out there, yet YOU can become so spiritualized that YOU can actually DO something about the pain. Yes, YOU, but not “you trapped in the robot-mind”, you can’t, and not “enslaved by human desires and emotions”, you won’t.

So if you hear The Call to the Work, maybe it’s time to struggle yourself out of the robot-mind and into the Cosmic Consciousness, where all questions are answered clearly and truly. The directions for doing so are available, and if you have a Super-Beacon, you’re already well on your way out of the robot-mind and into the Consciousness that IS the universe and beyond.

Most humans are small, intimately interested in their own small lives and desires; they tend to be and act quite robotic and automatic in their nature; knee-jerk reactive, associative in the extreme, slow to act but quick to react, in tooth-gritting pain and misery, superstition and deeply rooted fixed beliefs, filled with fear and hostility toward anything strange and unusual, anything that doesn’t completely mirror themselves.

It’s only alone that most people feel safe, and unfortunately, they’re quite right. In groups or clusters of similars, they feel confident and in some strange way it’s true — there is some safety in numbers, which is the whole driving force behind families, tribes and nations.

Robotic-Mind Humans can’t, don’t or won’t see or feel or detect any distinction between playing a game and watching a game being played. Some folks will even watch the same game or a single “play” over and over, or just tiny parts of it, in “playback” mode.

All your friends for the first part of your life will probably mostly be robotic-mind humans, unless you were lucky enough to have an off-world invisible childhood playmate. If you were stuck with the organic types, you suffered, and I’m sorry for it.

At some point, usually when the Bat-Signal goes off and you realized that you and Robin are needed right now at the Commissioner’s office, you’ll lose all your “friends” and find yourself out on the Moors, all alone in the cold, cold fog.

And loving it.

So there you are, in the Void, and suddenly, quite suddenly, without really considering it, an entire set of universes opens up and, WHAM!, you’re in the game, right in the middle of it, immersed and living and breathing and getting overwhelmed by sensations, the very essence of organic identification, which means you’ll probably start reacting to it all by crying like a newborn baby.

Now, in order to have a game on a cosmic level, you MUST have an adversary, even if the adversity is non-violent and non-lethal. The environment itself, without adding anything or taking anything away, will serve as Adversary enough for anyone’s taste, but there are also deliberate adversaries, with nothing but misery and destruction on their minds.

What would this world be without them?

There has to be something against which to struggle, and nasty in-game characters certainly will deal out trouble, but in addition, some sort of time-limit on the player, such as a limited lifetime, helps to establish necessity, urgency and efficiency, but it’s not entirely necessary to have a time-limit in order to have a game, however, ask any immortal how it is — they’ll tell you it’s no fun to live forever, and for them, the end of forever is a welcome sight.

Violent games with rough play are common enough. You’ll find war re-enactments galore, as well as a plentiful supply of actual local and global conflict that could keep any wargamer busy making levels and add-on mission, and this has spilled over of late into the electronic computer games industry.

Tabletop games with dimensional pieces gives a bit more immersion to the game, and electronic games have their own level of immersion, controlled by level of detail, sound, color, action and particle emissions.

Non-violent games must have a point to the game, and a series of achievements or markers to show progress in the game, and we’ve made plenty of those available now for downloading.

The game of “Personal Evolution” is just such a game — it is the game of your life if you hope to achieve spiritual full-flowering and an opening to the Cosmic Consciousness.

Your job in that game is to open yourself to the Big Mind and stay open to it, to make yourself available to the Work as it unfolds, and to achieve greater levels of personal freedom and sacrifice, struggle and evolution for the sake of All Beings Everywhere.

Just because YOU happened to have achieved Freedom Off The Wheel in the Void doesn’t mean that everyone else has. In fact, they are still suffering, and it’s their voices you will always hear, as long as there is world-pain.

The GAME OF LIFE is not a frivolous game that is entirely for your benefit and amusement, nor is it merely a way to engage oneself in times of boredom and ennui, world-fatigue.

In the game of SPIRITUAL EVOLUTION, the enemy is ALWAYS robotic sleep, automaticity and an inability to take personal responsibility for the motivation and actions of the ORGANIC AVATAR.

In the Higher Realms, you MUST regain a sense of the SCOPE and METHODS of the Great Work. The aim is high, the understanding of the aim only comes when you are IN the mode of COSMIC CONSCIOUSNESS.

The ordinary organic robot-mind cannot hold the data to understand the Great Work, but the Higher Mind can, so one of your first jobs is to jump somehow out of the organic robot mind and leap and expand into the Cosmic Consciousness, where you DO have the power to grasp the Universal Fundamentals.

In short, when you’re there, you’ll understand the why, the where and the what. But how is the game conducted? What forces, other than electro-magnetism, strong-force, weak-force, gravity, levity and Higgs Contractions are involved?

It’s always the same old story, same old game:

Forces of Darkness against the Forces of Light; Good versus Evil — as defined by whom??? Maxwell Smart of “Control” versus Sigfried of “Chaos”, Bond versus Smersh, Red against Blue, Grey against Blue and, as Tom Lehrer sings, “everybody hates the Jews”.

On the organic level, it’s ALWAYS the stupid National Religions. Intolerance breeds hatred of Jews, Christians, Moslems, Buddhists, Hindus — I don’t want to leave out the Bauls — and every variant thereof, and tens of thousands of splinter groups, all against each other.

There are whites against reds, blacks against browns, purples against yellows, Arabs, Israelis, hothead maniacs, all fighting in a frenzy, smashing beautiful things and taking hostages, creating fear and hostility everywhere; all automatically suspicious, jealous and afraid of anyone who isn’t EXACTLY like they are.

At the moment, religious fundamentalists — which merely means insane on the subject — are on the rise, but human history is filled with human-induced misery, like the Roman Empire, the Inquisition and the Black Plague, all of which speak volumes for the pain of living life.

And, of course, it’s the peasants who get it in end, so to speak. My history and future is always with the peasants. It is amongst them that the great spiritual leaders and future Great Cosmic Maintainers will arise.

I speak from the future, where this has already taken place. What we see how is HOW it came to be, the past state pulled toward the future state of your personal Avatar.

You WILL achieve it, this is certain.HOW you go about it and what happens along the way is what makes a game, and how willingly and cheerfully and courageously you play the game is what makes a game into a GREAT GAME, an act of Work into the Great Work.

It’s all about the level of interaction.

On the planetary surface of the Earth, you’ll find all manner of personal and impersonal destruction and a devouring constant, on a continual level — plant versus animal, bacteria versus virus.

The Union of Opposites is a War Game by definition, and unspeakable atrocities in the matter of eating solar energy and spitting out recombinant particles in the form of oxygen, hydrogen and carbon await you in every moment.

Whether you are aware of it or not, millions, and sometimes  billions, of micro-creatures die horrible deaths with every step you take, and every breath you breathe.

sitting in the snow, crestline, winter of 1971
sitting in the snow, Crestline, winter of 1971

Killing billions of micro-organisms every second…but how to stop?

Of course, you don’t want to cause all that horrible destruction, but what can you do? That’s how bodies work — they kill in order to live, and they do this every moment of every day of their lives. Every breath you take, every bite of food, every swallow of liquid, means death and destruction to worlds full of living creatures.

It’s kind of like an organic napkin, folding and unfolding itself many many times, in an endless, restless dance of form-change, which is sometimes called “the Dance of Shiva” but more often referred to as “The Willies”.

On the highest scale, it’s of course THE BIG GAME — “God” versus “Devil” — or some variant thereof. The adversary has to be capable of winning the game once in a while, otherwise, why not just play checkers with your dog?

That means that BOTH ADVERSARIES must be EQUAL in strength and potential, with the choice of team color made by the toss of a coin. In the case of Mr. God, the toss can’t possibly be legal, so there are other ways of choosing a team in the Real World.

I do play checkers with my dog, but it’s so boring. I beat him two out of three times.

“Games are frivolous, nonsense, a waste of time, energy and money,” is the mind-set you’ll have to overcome in order to see the Universe as a Game and learn to actually love the game.

The GAME OF LIFE is much more than getting and accumulating stuff, dominating friends and family, earning lots of money, traveling around the world, having a loving and dependable life-partner and raising your kids to be just like yourself.

The GAME OF LIFE extends upward and outward, beyond human conception, but until you take the first few feeble steps away from your own front yard, you’ll never see the road.

You can learn through various exercises and essence-tasks how to play the game, but it doesn’t happen overnight and there’s no instant success, no “touch of the guru” that’s going to DO IT ALL FOR YOU.

A Guru should be used to find the Path and stay on it, to further one’s Work, not as a crutch upon which to depend. You are a powerful spiritual Being. It’s time to accept that and take it as a personal charge to GET TO WORK.

What IS the Work? Well, for starters, it’s not about you, except in the biggest sense.

If you’re a dedicated gamer — no, let me make that more clear — if you’re a DEDICATED gamer, you’ll understand completely.

It’s not about any one game. At the end of every game, the universe implodes and momentarily explodes, in what is quaintly called a “Kalpa”, meaning “one game cycle”, no more, no less.

So if you’re a dedicated gamer, you’ll also be an EXPERIENCED gamer, which means that you not only know and sense, but actually FEEL the gaming experience and know what its function is in the Highest Sense.

No one game is important enough to remember in detail, but some games, you just remember them because they had an anomaly, something that stood out as unique and original, a one-of-a-kind event.

Those are the pearls of wisdom, and they have a great price, the price of living life.

At the end of the game, the teams are scrambled, like that old chief’s breakfast at the Santa Fe railway depot, so many years ago.

You tend to let the games flow one into the other, after the first million life-games or so. At one point, it all blends together into a single lifetime, and that’s the experience you’re after — it means that you have “arrived”, in the spiritual sense.

You can now go anywhere and anywhen you choose to go, and select an Avatar at will, to accommodate your present play, which is always a combination of offense and defense.

In the case of SPIRITUAL LIFE versus ROBOTIC LIFE, the offensive plays are simple; keep the Essence active all the time, and give the robot its due, meaning a treat every now and then, but don’t let the tail wag the dog.

“The weenie don’t run the show, lady,” says Stephen Elliot as “The OldTimer” in the multi-award-winning live television play, “Steambath”.

Bill Bixby called me to remind me to watch the broadcast, which I did. I highly recommend you see this production before it becomes “unavailable” — it has already vanished from the mainstream market; you’ll have to find a copy for less than $250, and that might not happen these days, but you might get lucky, which is The Work speaking.

Getting Lucky is part of the process of spiritual evolution. You are destined to be a Great Teacher, an Ascended Master and in fact, it’s guaranteed. If you’re reading this, you’re already on The List.

That, of course, means more work and more grit and groan as you struggle against THE EVIL FORCES OF SLEEP, which is, of course, the “other” team.

As your memory expands outward, you’ll remember that you’ve played all the parts, ALL the parts, even the smallest particle is played by YOU.

“I had nothing but myself with which to make the world. Out of myself the world was made.”

A ticklish prospect at best, and the only improvement will come from within. Which team is winning? It depends on whom you ask, and at the level we like to play the Universal Game, it matters not which side is winning.

It really is, “It’s not who wins or loses, but how you play the game”, and both sides or all sides are capable of fair play.

That means you never attack an unarmed person. In a battle of wits, I make sure they have a decent weapon before I strike a blow, and I have yet to strike a single blow.

Some of us haven’t been on a civilized planet in years.

By the time you learn how to actually DO THE WORK to PLAY THE GAME OF LIFE, you’ll be ready to give THIS COSMIC GAME you call “THE UNIVERSE”, and possibly even “The Game of Urth” five “likes”.

If you DO give it five likes, be sure to also tell all your friends! As a matter of fact, that’s an excellent “first step” in The Work, to give it five “likes” and tell all your friends.

See You At The Top!!!
