Good to know, and certainly well-considered advice in dealing with deep inside issues, things that are so hidden that they reside only in the subconscious, where contents are, indeed under pressure.

Inside yourself, believe me, contents are largely unknown to the daily ordinary awareness — I can’t bring myself to call it “consciousness” of any kind — are kept under pressure of all kinds, induced by environment and the deep self, along with shadows of the ghostly disembodied voices of pressure-cookers of your recent and distant past, those uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, cousins, friends and acquaintances who have influenced you and your beliefs, attitudes and opinions for all your life.

CLASS ZERO – LEVEL 1

ACHIEVEMENT = “Waltzing Mathilda”

You’ll be walking through a very large orb with many levels. There is no threat at this level, just space to walk through and tedium to fight. You can pick up items and treasures, health and other good things, from the Loot Boxes all around the dungeons. This does not stay with the character from orb to orb at this level, but later this will change, and they will continue from one class to the next.

Devastation Strikes

We’re all used to devastating catastrophic events in our lives; well, we’re having two of them here right now.

First is, my 25 year old Chrysler New Yorker (the only car my back will tolerate riding in at all, even for short drives to doctor or dentist) needs to go into the shop once again, with more evidence of aging. It’s had a number of breakdowns lately, all involving having to be rescued from a highway roadside.

Last week we made the local papers; we got a new fuel pump, which got my elderly vehicle going again after coming to a dead halt in the middle of nowhere the previous Friday, my watercolor teaching class day. We were getting gas after the class, when all of a sudden, the old gasket gave way, and we were sitting on top of an enormous gasoline storage tank below the pavement, on which we were sitting, helpless, in a huge 30 foot wide puddle of gasoline just waiting for a lit cigarette butt.

We were right next door to the fire station, and within 60 seconds, there were a bunch of guys in yellow slickers screaming to get out of the car, don’t slam the door, don’t try to take anything out with us, and to be careful not to make a spark!

Within half an hour, it was safe to remove our groceries and get out of the way of the tow truck guys, who were assisted by the firemen.

Okay, so after a third tow — we’re getting to know the towing guys by name — we had the 25 year old gasket replaced. But you’ll probably have already guessed what happened next…

I thought it would be good if our mechanic went through the whole car to see if anything else needed doing… so we brought it limping in.

Turns out that there’s a lot of stuff, small but important stuff, that needs doing on a car this old — think of it as a vintage or antique car — so, virtually all the power steering stuff, brakes, shocks, front axle leaks, air conditioner compressor blew up, plus some other stuff that involves rubber seals, hoses and such — all of which are easily destroyed by polluted atmosphere — well, those are pretty far gone after a quarter century.

Reductionism & Game Design

This is a quick run-through of 2fart4 in extreme alpha condition, just to give you an idea of how the reductionist principle works with level design. This will eventually go into a mobile app. Most games are over-designed with far too much LoD — Level of Detail. It’s easy to junk up an art work with over-complication and “sophistication”. Like an “over-painted” painting, it gets downright muddy, and can turn into pure crap fast.

Projectile Ballistics and Faith

Once you have a working projectile with real physics operating to produce apogee/perigee ballistics, Faith is certain. Beliefs may come, and beliefs may go, but Faith is always with us. Let’s talk weppins. First of all, in real combat, there’s not a lot of blossoming fireballs going on out of muzzles — you want to suppress the sound and the sight to prevent sniper spotters from getting a mark on your position.

MAYA 3 Is Near Completion

Well, give me a few hundred more hours and I’ll have her ready to drive. I still haven’t put in some of the misty things and dank, murky, darkened tomb hallways and close, cramped low-ceilinged cut-stone corridors that must be lit by a small lantern, casting only a little circle of light. This level is inspired by a visit to a number of tombs in 1969. I didn’t have to use the photos I snapped — the experience was captured wholesale and put into these eight tough Pre-Columbian tomb settings. Is it retro? Not enough to suit me, but yes, it is — however, many of the effects could not have been produced Back In The Day, so it’s a blend of retro design and very advanced programming. It is a timed game, with timed adventures and puzzles to solve.
