THE MINKEES

THE EXPANDED ALBUM

An E.J. Gold Musical Production

More songs. More harmonies. More Minkees than anyone reasonably expected.

There was a time when popular music was young, innocent, exuberant, and just a little bit ridiculous. Guitars jangled, tambourines rattled, drums thundered, and everybody seemed to be having the time of their lives.

The Minkees have captured that time, put it in a bottle, shaken it vigorously, and let it loose again.

Welcome to THE MINKEES — THE EXPANDED ALBUM, a growing collection of musical adventures from a band that never learned the difference between having fun and making music.

And why should they?

THE SOUND THAT WOULDN’T SIT STILL

The Minkees belong to that marvelous tradition of bands that could turn three chords, a catchy melody, and a slightly improbable lyric into three minutes of pure happiness.

But there’s more going on here than nostalgia.

Behind the cheerful harmonies and infectious rhythms lies a remarkably inventive musical universe, where every song is an opportunity to try something unexpected.

A little British Invasion here. A touch of American garage rock there. Some sunshine pop, a dash of psychedelic confusion, and enough vocal harmonies to keep an entire recording studio occupied for weeks.

The result is unmistakably Minkees.

WHY AN EXPANDED ALBUM?

Because some musical collections refuse to stay finished. I added a LOT of songs to the album from the first issue — about thirty songs in addition to the others, total, 124 songs.

You think you’ve heard everything, and suddenly another song appears. Then another. And another.

Before long, what began as an album has become an expedition.

The expanded collection brings together more of the Minkees’ musical universe, giving listeners a chance to explore the group’s many moods, experiments, discoveries, and occasional departures from musical sanity.

Some songs are immediately familiar in spirit. Others wander into unexpected territory.

That’s part of the pleasure.

THE GREAT POP MUSIC EXPERIMENT

The Minkees remind us of something the music business occasionally forgets:

Music is supposed to be fun.

Not every song needs to change the world. Sometimes it’s enough to change somebody’s afternoon.

A memorable chorus, an irresistible rhythm, a funny lyric, a moment of unexpected tenderness — these are the little miracles of popular music.

And sometimes a seemingly simple pop song can carry a surprisingly profound idea, tucked away beneath the harmonies where nobody thinks to look.

That’s an old shamanic trick.

Listen carefully.

You never know what might be hiding inside a perfectly innocent three-minute pop song.

AN ALBUM FOR LISTENERS, NOT CRITICS

There’s no examination at the end of this collection.

No requirement to identify musical influences, analyze chord progressions, or explain the historical significance of the tambourine.

Just listen.

Find your favorites. Discover a few surprises. Play the ones you like again.

And if you find yourself singing along with a chorus you’ve only heard once, don’t be alarmed.

That’s what the Minkees do.

THE MINKEES ARE BACK!

Or perhaps they never went away.

Perhaps they’ve been hiding somewhere in the great cosmic recording studio, waiting for somebody to switch on the microphones.

Whatever the explanation, the expanded album is here, and the music is ready.

Turn it up.

Invite your friends.

And remember:

You don’t have to be a Minkee to go bananas.
