Prosperity Path Gold Claim — Good Spots to Prospect
There are some nice air-breaks and drops in the upper part of this photo, just below the ripples. You’d look for bedrock, of course, but first, you’ll want to find the exact water-break where the floodwater allows the gold to drop straight down through an air pocket. Gold wants to fall first, and will be ahead of all the other heavy minerals, slightly upstream from the sand, where the gravel falls and the heavier metals will be found.

Here’s Uncle Claude’s photo of Bill Albin walking the route toward the camping area; you can pitch a tent here if you don’t mind sharing your space with the bears — they’re friendly and most anxious to meet anyone with anything resembling food. There are campgrounds aplenty all around, and lots of rentals. Living right there on the claim is not recommended, and it’s less than three minutes from the established and sleeping areas.

This was my mother’s sterling silver example of her modernist jewelry teacher, Art Smith’s “Calder” necklace, 1953; Smith was inspired by the Alexander Calder show at the Modern. I’m currently engaged in creating Modernist Pendants out of copper, brass, silver and 18 karat gold (it’s very yellow, as opposed to 14k). There are just too many of them to photograph and put up on eBay all at once, but I’m heading in that direction. Spencerian Handwriting on the Wall
Besides being a member of the infamous Donner Party family, I’m also in the family lineage from Platt Rogers Spencer (1800-1864) originator of Spencerian Penmanship, a very popular system of creating beautiful cursive script, taught in American schools for just shy of 100 years. If you’ve ever been inside the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol building, you’ve seen the Spencerian Handwriting Versions of the major documents of the foundation of the United States of America — they were penned by Platt Rogers Spencer under commission from Congress, and that’s not all. He wrote poetry, but only one of his poems has survived to the present day, until now. Here’s the inventory, all of which relate to or carry examples of Platt Rogers Spencer’s personal penmanship and style:

The two most vital and memorable incidents in early California history are the Donner Party and the ’49er Gold Rush. I don’t even have to tell you what those are about. If you’re like most Americans, especially Californians, you’ll know.
I happen to be a member of the family known in California as “The Donner Party” and I have a number of Donner Party memorabilia that could well be instrumental in discovering what actually happened at Donner Pass. Was there cannibalism? Maybe these documents will tell the story; they’re waiting for historians to get hold of them, and maybe YOU could be the one to make that happen!
This collection of the UNPUBLISHED LONG-LOST DONNER PARTY PAPERS is perhaps the most important historical discovery related to early California history in this century, and is now available for sale to some lucky person. The collection is all original documents — and the collection includes many letters, Daguerreotypes, Ambrotypes and other early photographs, magazine & newspaper articles, gold “California Fractionals” and other memorabilia which may solve many of the remaining mysteries related to the Donner Party Tragedy. Arthur Rimbaud (1854-1891) — Une Saison en Enfer, Illustrated by Andre Masson.
Written in 1872 and 1873, this hallucinogenic exposition describes a life-journey in hell. Rimbaud’s relationship with the famous French poet Verlaine finally exploded in public, and Verlaine fired three pistol-shots at Rimbaud, wounding him.
Verlaine was sentenced to two years in prison for the assault, and Rimbaud was shunned by Parisienne society. He burned his remaining manuscripts and left for the South Seas, where he died of cancer at the age of 37.
Societe de femmes bibliophiles / Paris / 1961 / Atelier Crommelynck produced what is probably the best-known and most reprinted works in the realm of gay prose & poetry.
