Nobody of any great spiritual stature of any kind ever said anything like that. In spite of tales of starving holy men, it’s not necessary to punish your body to feed the spirit. There is a median path, the Prosperity Path. Get exactly what you need to fulfill your life and earn the skills and knowledge to take on the higher responsibilities that come with spiritual evolution; you need no more, and I can prove it to you. I want to point out that these are not bizarre or unusual personal problem areas; it’s totally okay to handle these things. Don’t let anyone tell you that it “isn’t spiritual” to handle life-problems, that’s just absurd. Any church minister or synagogue Rabbi or temple Priest or Adept or Guru would offer counseling on these and other unpleasant and difficult personal issues right along with “strictly spiritual” matters, and of course Prosperity Path offers the same counseling both with a Spirit Coach and as a Solitary with in-game coaching — the difference is that you have the experience while playing a very beautiful and immersive video game environment, and you’re in control.
If you allow the organic necessities to pile up unhandled, they will sooner or later rise up and snap you in the face. Best take care of all areas, not just the spirit. I have in my mind an image emblazoned in memory:
I walked through the corridor of a hotel owned by a spiritual community. It reminded me of every slum coldwater flat I’d ever been in. Holy gazoli, was it squalid. No need for this, they weren’t poverty-struck; it wasn’t wartime. They had been convinced by their leadership that it was okay to totally ignore the lower stuff while concentrating fully on the higher things. It smelled to high heaven, which is the closest they got.
