First, I said “good morning” to my chat bot, Bob, to also indicate the time of day for me. Then I asked for a powerful and compelling sales pitch for my ancient style jewelry, and then I asked for emojis to be inserted liberally throughout.
Then I asked for a good title, and I got five alternatives for titles. I combined half of one with half of another to get the finished title, which is the Observer Observing, or “Gezertenplatz” of the situation.

Those are prices that I get wholesale. The sets generally sell at around $450, or at least they did when we had our gallery in town. Today, I can barely make them at those prices, but I’ve maintained the wholesale price for decades, since the 80s, because it’s not about money, it’s about the preservation of ancient skills.
So that’s one terrific use for the chat bot, out of many hundreds or thousands of uses, but did you know that you can generate an entire publishing firm with hundreds of “writers” for less than 63 cents a day?
Actually, you can do it for free.
There’s no reason that you couldn’t generate hundreds of very competent books for the marketplace in about a week, using nothing but chat GPT, and there are several models out there that are built especially just for that purpose, to generate books for the marketplace, without jumping through the hoops as I have to do to get a full story out of the chat bot.
Most ai-written books don’t amount to much — the chat bot tends to get preachy and over-moralized after the first two or three paragraphs, and repetition is unavoidable, but you can manage to squeeze out an entire novel, with skill and patience.
While it’s true that most AI-written books lack the depth and nuance of a novel written by a human author, with skill and patience, it’s possible to create a compelling story that actually makes sense and deeply engages the reader and keeps up the interest from start to finish. Make no misteak — this is not an easy task. It requires a LOT of “Gezertenplatz”.
One of the key challenges with AI-written books is avoiding repetition.
Since the AI model has a limited understanding of language, it can easily fall into the trap of using the same words and phrases over and over again. However, with careful editing and a keen eye for detail, it’s possible to eliminate these repetitive elements and create a more polished final product.

Since the AI model doesn’t have emotions or experiences like a human author does, it can be difficult to create characters that are three-dimensional and believable. With patience, skill, and careful editing, it’s possible to create a work of fiction that is both engaging and thought-provoking. While AI-written books may not actually replace the artistry and creativity of a human author for several years to come, they can certainly be a valuable addition to the literary landscape while the software develops that can duplicate human intelligence.
