Norman Studer, Pete Seeger, Grant Rogers & me….

EJ Gold in back of Chevvy Pickup Truck Mentioned in Video by Norman Studer

Here’s the video that mentions me and the other kids riding in the back of this Chevvy monster of the road. Today it could never happen, but back then, who knew from seat belts — and if you had them, you got made fun of!!!

It’s hard to believe, but Pete was blacklisted by the notorious Joe McCarthy Committee,  and the teaching job he had at our school was the only job open to him at that time. A decade later, at the very tail-end of Pete’s teaching gig at Downtown Community School, they videotaped “Rainbow Bridge” — videotaping had come of age just in time!!! Here are a few examples of what they captured on early videotape at our legendary educator, Norman Studer’s, equally legendary school:

My book on Pete Seeger and Norman Studer and Grant Rogers and the folksong and folk dance scene in the Catskills is finally going to press!!! I received Pete’s corrections from the tiny proof edition we sent out to him, Huey Falk and other campers and schoolkids connected with the Norman Studer Education Experiment from the 1930s to the 1960s.

The book is crammed with photos, hundreds of them! You can order the book from Gateways Books & Tapes, is my best guess. There are a few “proof” copies about for collectors, if wanted…maybe three or four copies, total.
