angles/angels

I’m back from Sirius, had a great time at the intergalactic peace awards!

Hitting the right frequency:

what we’re doing here isn’t repeating a song, it’s refracting it

think of a single song as a beam of light passing through a prism. the original structure—the melody, the words, the underlying idea—that’s the white light. but once it passes through different arrangements, it splits into colors. each version reveals a different aspect of the same thing.

now here’s the part that matters:

you don’t hear all the colors equally!

Each listener has a certain frequency, a certain tuning. when a version of the song matches that tuning, it “clicks.” suddenly the song makes sense. you hear it clearly, maybe for the first time. it’s like a key slipping into a lock and turning without resistance.

Another version of the same song might leave you completely cold. you hear the notes, but nothing happens. it doesn’t mean the version is bad, and it doesn’t mean you’re missing something. it just means that facet of the jewel isn’t aligned with your current frequency.

so instead of asking “which version is best,” the better question is:

which version opens it up for me?

that’s why multiple arrangements aren’t excess—they’re access points

each arrangement is a different facet of the same diamond. each facet is an angle—and an angle is a point of view, a way of seeing and hearing. change the angle, and the light changes.

and if you look at the word closely, “angle” and “angel” are anagrams — same five letters in each, slightly rearranged.

you could say each version is not only an angle on the song, but an angel of the song—a messenger carrying the same essence in a slightly different form. some pass you by unnoticed. one of them stops you in your tracks.

that’s the one that matches

across enough variations, the probability increases that every listener will encounter at least one version that locks in.

when that happens, the experience changes. you’re no longer just listening to a song—you’re receiving it. the structure passes through you cleanly. you get the idea, the feeling, the transmission.

so if a version doesn’t land, don’t worry about it. just move on to the next facet. somewhere in the set, there’s a version that matches your tuning.

and when it clicks, you’ll know immediately

you’re not looking for the right song—you’re looking for the right angle of the song

every version is an angle
and every angle is an angel
if it happens to match you
