Metal Embossing Projects YOU Can Make & Sell

x
Pueblo in the Sky looks easy, but offers some serious challenges.

My style of embossing is free-hand and free-style. Unless illustrating by example some technique or interesting embossing tool, I use only one very basic tool — a very tiny ball-tipped embossing stylus, and that’s about it.

Once in a while, I’ll use the nylon tip on the other end of my basic tool to make a larger dip in the metal from the back side, but other than that, it’s just one tool and the movement of my hands and fingertips.

You can’t just “straight draw” on metal, even foil. It doesn’t LIKE to be pushed around, and it will fight you and make you go crinkly and lumpy and weird.

Curved lines are the bane of every engraver. Spend a few hours mastering it before you screw up hundreds of pieces that COULD have worked, had you taken the time to discover how to make curved lines work in metal foil.

If you’re working in the thicker material, you’ll have to find your own way. It’s not easy to work that stuff, and anything thicker than .36 gauge will probably defeat any beginner, although there’s always beginner’s luck.

“Pueblo in the Sky”, illustrated above, uses straight lines against curves to achieve its effect. You start by drawing in the sidewalks, then add the building on the right, starting with the left top and working your way toward the doorway, actually a triple arch, if you’ll take notice. The dots on the sidewalk can also be circles or squares, to add to the illusion of depth.

Straight lines are easy to emboss free-hand on foil. They will tend to look exactly the same as your drawings on paper. As a matter of fact, even your sculptures and ceramics will reflect your drawing skills or lack of them.

If you’re not very good at drawing, try some of my art books on the subject. I can help anyone learn to draw, even if they can’t even draw a stick-figure. Continue reading

What is a Healing Mandala?

Before I discuss the Healing Mandala, I’d like to point out that, if you’re planning on entering the spiritual game-field of metal embossing sigils, talismans, pendants, rings, pins, headbands, belts, bolo ties and pocket medallions, you will definitely appreciate knowing the following little factoid:

The 24k solid gold disk at 1.4 grams — which is the ideal weight for the small piece, to allow a reasonable retail price-point — when hammered out with a bit of body still left on it, won’t typically fit on the pin-vise without serious compensation and special mountings.

It’s a total pain in the bazonga to try to carve, even if you do manage somehow to put it into a metal harness, because the retaining pins will block your engraving tool and your fingers, making it nearly impossible to complete any cut into the top surface.

However, a 24k solid gold FOIL disk, which is rolled out, not hammered out, can be easily embossed without mounting on a vise — no vise needed for the foil, and the foil could well be an aluminum craft foil, or solid gold foil. Use your fingers to hold onto it.

Your embossing tool can be controlled with one hand, while the engraving tool simply can’t be. You need your other hand to stop the forward movement of the tool, and to guide it onto the target curve or line or gouge.

Funny thing is, once the gold foil or heavier gold slab is inside the bezel and the protective quartz-glass crystals are in place, you can’t tell whether it’s foil or a thicker beaten-out gold disk. Unless you take the locket apart, the foil gold and the heavier “token” weight gold disk, when viewed inside the locket, look exactly the same. Continue reading

Raving About the New Embossing Metals

DSC_1220 copy_800px

In the course of making several dozen Cornflower Mandalas yesterday, I happened upon a disk made of the embossing metal I’ve been using for decades, now, and duly made a Cornfield Mandala upon it and packed it into a dollar-sized cardboard “flip” coin holder, so-called because to look at the other side of a coin, you flip the flip over with an easy practiced move.

Boy, the key word there is surely “practiced”, and “practiced moves” is what metal embossing and coin-carving is all about, and that goes double for gem-setting and ring-making and painting and sculpting and video gaming and hopscotch and just about anything else you endeavor to do well.

The “right moves” is a Big Number in Buddhism, meaning that it’s important.

“Right Action” means making the right moves at the right time in the right place with the right intention, nice and smooth, making no sudden moves, no ripples in the Firmament or Force.

In short, “Right Action” is grace and movement in relating to the universe and other Beings, and is and was a big subject with Picasso, Matisse, Dali and Stravinski. Continue reading

For Your Convenience…

x
“Country Road Along Canal, Amsterdam 1645” comes out differently every time.

I’ve given my sources for my metal embossing projects, so that you can bring your prices down, down, down, to the level where there’s some profit in it and it’s worth your while to devote time, energy and talent to the thing.

But what if you DON’T intend to quit the day job and sell your embossed metal artwork to thousands of satisfied customers??? What if you don’t intend to order and await shipments of industrial foil, huge cartons of coin-flips and enormous quantities of sales tags? For you, there is a VERY good answer.

I make kits that are attuned to specific projects. You get all the materials and supplies you need to make 21 finished disks mounted in “flip” coin-frames for sale — that’s one to wear in a bezel or carry as a pocket-pal or purse-pal in an acrylic capsule, if you decide to use those items.

ALL MY DESIGNS COME IN ONLY ONE SIZE, made especially for the dollar-sized disk & bezel. You can re-size them as you wish. You will do better by just sort of roughly and generally copying the lines rather than trying to trace them, but some folks won’t have it any other way, so for them, you’ll have to shrink the thing down on photoshop and print it out on a TRANSFER paper, I suppose.

If you work this system rightly, you’ll develop your own “iconographics” and get them into the metal form. The whole point here is to utilize “reductionism” in order to simplify the form, as Cangialosi would have said it. You can also understand the concept in the following Matisse-ian way:

“EXPRESS THE SUBJECT WITH THE FEWEST POSSIBLE LINES.” Continue reading

Metal Embossing Made Easy

Handmade by Local Artisan, only $3 bucks each, come and get it!!!
Handmade Metal Embossings by Local Artisan! Only $3 bucks apiece!!! Look Here!

“Hi, I need some cash fast, and I’m on the street selling these things for which I usually ask fifty bucks, but like I said, I need some cash, so I’m selling them for only $3 bucks apiece, metal ebmossings mounted in a coin flip, like you see here. Can you help me out? How many would you like?”

Metal Embossing? It’s cheap, and it’s a total cinch to make ’em, and a total cinch to sell ’em, when you know a few tricks of the trade. Metal embossing is a terrific way for a new artist of ANY age and persuasion to get out there with their artwork, and it’s a great way to get your art into multimedia without a lot of fuss and horrible expenses.

For an established artist, it’s a no-brainer. It puts your art into an affordable category for an original work of art. Usually it’ll be a signed and numbered multiple, which this isn’t. It’s a total original, and an established artist can ask the moon for these things.

Doubt it? Imagine what the price would be for a coin-sized embossed metal piece if you could PROVE that it was made and signed by Picasso? How about Rosenquist, or Lichtenstein, or Warhol, or Basquiat?

I think you get the picture. Continue reading

Is “The Cult of the Skull” Mainstream Enough for the Washington Post???

gorby at his sales desk, Andromeda Sector Shoppe

There are skulls everywhere, and skull novelty items and decorative devices abound in abundance, as it were. It’s not just skulls, of course. There are also full and partial skeletons, and very life-like plastic reproductions of incredibly grisly body parts and even full alien and human bodies.

It seems that on every block, there’s a body shop that specializes in skulls. Well, whom are weem to disagreem???

I thought and thought about a name for the thing, and “Cult of the Skull” seemed the most mainstream, the least offensive and the most likely to agree with current events and popular prejudices.

In short, I may have made a slight tactical error by choosing “Cult of the Skull” as a typical Earthian/Human mainstream marketing concept you might find anywhere on eBay, Amazon or G-G-Google and his goo-goo googly eyes.

You might not be anywhere near old enough for that to be funny. Continue reading

Enamel Granulation — A New Technique — A New Art Form

x
These are not granulation, but are paper arts enamels.

I think I just invented enamel granulation, at least in the New Age Material I’ve been using with what amounts to a cheese fondue dish combined with a professional hair dryer and a few common kitchen utensils — clearly, that’s where the paper enameling technology that I buy and use must have first spawned, and if you look at the products typical of the art form, you’ll be disappointed in the very ordinary kind of products — things that amount to “VANILLA” in any language, meaning that there is absolutely no exploitation of the Fine Art effects that can be brought out of the medium. Ancient Triad Reconstructions Offers

In response to many requests, I’ve posted the photos that Dokk took of the GENUINE ANCIENT Carnelian and Cobalt GlassTriads that are offered for sale. The Triads listed below are categorically each $450. Some of them, I’m very aware, are worth far more than that, but to save confusion, I’ve priced them all the same and no, I won’t tell you which ones are the more valuable, because it’s not about value, it’s about bonding with a quantum instrument, like bonding with a didge, guitar or harp. It’s a feeling thing, not a calculation.

All the Triad reconstructions below were made using strictly Paleo jewelry crafting techniques — pliers, blowpipe, charcoal block, small hammer, cutter & fingers — those are the tools I use to create these reconstructions of ancient Triads. Everything is made by hand, every move and every technical application is by hand, no machines, except for the drawing of the wire, which was accomplished with draw plates rather than hammering.

I hereby assert and LIFETIME guarantee the utter authenticity of every antiquity listed below, and assure the utmost quality and care in the rebuilding of these incredibly beautiful and useful ancient devices.

Ancient Carnelian Triad rebuilt with modern copper wire & findings.

You’ll note that the copper windings are tight, very tight. The hedgehog spacer beads are very spiky and wonderfully active quantumly speaking. The ends of each core wire are bent into loops, making “Induction Rings”, an important aspect of any quantum device. Continue reading

ZOOMSHOP – Atlantean Crystal Triads

x

Try to remember that the use of the Triad is not in itself a Healing Action or a Medical Tool, but a supportive Healing Assist that provides nourishment to the Higher, the real source of healing. The Triad, like many Atlantean Machines, is a focusing device which uses the natural magnetic field of the Earth and the radio waves — the vibrating waves that still remain from the Big Bang — and the Quantum Effect of Shape & Configuration to provide additional healing force to the already in-place healing actions that may have been taken on the organic level by attending physicians.

FEED the HIGHER is the rule, and the Triad does exactly that. It focuses higher energy into the affected area, creating a corresponding higher vibration in the lower bodies. This “Shakti” energy carries with it a Higgs Field Phase Distortion Bubble that is altered slightly by the shape of the object.

The copper, gold, silver or bronze cores are formed into large, generous loops at each end of each leg of the Triad. These loops are important. They function as Induction Rings. The Diode Effect is caused by the triple crystals suspended in relation to each other in a triangular arrangement or pattern.

Each crystal is wrapped in a coil of high-conductance pure copper, creating a very small, almost undetectable magnetic field, but it’s more than enough voltage and amperage to have an effect in the nano world of quantum mechanics. Continue reading

How to Play “Bardo”

x
“The Bardo of Friendly Guides”, coming soon to your neighborhood theater.

Video Gaming is an important part of ANY Healing Process. It is not in itself a Healing Action, but supports Healing Actions with a Restorative-Regenerative Process within the Essential Self, expressed as an increase in the general neuro-plasticity of the brain and nervous system of the organic body.

The Video Game called “The Game of Bardo” has direct ties to a variety of organic ills and difficulties that tend to manifest in the body when things are not quite right in the Between-Lives State, because the Higher Bodies are very “senior” to the organic and other lower bodies, and what happens Up There profoundly affects what happens Down Here.

The Bardo Hooks that are ACTIVE tend to poke right through the Bardo Walls right into the Present Lifetime, and that can be quite painful and annoying, interruptive and hurtful, disrupting your inner and outer worlds and making your life a general hell on Earth.

Getting rid of those Bardo Hooks makes the corresponding things in your daily life go away, one item at a time. It isn’t important that you feel better as a result — if that happens, fine — that’s a brilliant bonus, but the REAL importance is that you can SEE A DEFINITE RESULT WITH YOUR OWN EYES, and can know by these signs — called “Organic Indicators” — that a corresponding change has taken place in the invisible world.

The only way to detect an uncharged particle is by some secondary effect. Invisible means just that, “not visible”. Eliminating the so-called “neuroses” in your organic self is nice, it makes you feel better and perform your life-tasks better, but it’s far more important that it indicates that something happened inside yourself. It is a visible signal that serves as an indicator of a successful operation in the invisible world, see? Continue reading
